Solids v liquids

The issue being: solids cannot be turned off, while liquids can.

However:
1) I would NOT want to be on top of a rocket that shuts its engines right after leaving the ground; it's assured destruction (while solids take you fast, high and safely enough away from the ground for the capsule to use its parachutes).

2) Anyway, capsules have a launch escape system to be used from the ground if necessary.

3) Liquids can indeed be stopped even before liftoff (but after ignition) while solids can't , BUT the reason why a computer would shut liquids is because liquid fueled rockets are much more complex than solid fueled rockets and therefore, chances of a failure are higher for the former than the latter.

4) The Shuttle has used SRBs and even if an SRB fails like it had with Challenger, the capsule being on its top, protected by a heatshield and an escape system, the outcome would be quite different.
