Not just thankful in the US, also in the rest of the world
Without neglecting the very real contributions of the USSR, (now Russia), and the recent flowering of ESA, plus minor contributions from China and Japan. Nonetheless, it is NASA that has led the world space programme, and has had the best and most open data release policies.
