candidates and parties

No need to get too worked up about tasteless people playing their kazoos. The true personality of candidates is always revealed during long campaigns. In France, it led to Ségolène Royal's defeat. The president of the USA (and to some extent all contenders for the office) is the most closely studied person on this planet. His past, psychology, etc, are always meticulously studied. It's often as fascinating as a train wreck.

Obama is assuredly a narcissist. I think that Obama can get really nasty when he doesn't get what he wants. I don't expect him to play by the rules: narcissists never do. Many politicians are narcissists. They must be, in order to convince themselves that the nation needs them, that they can save the country. Unfortunately, McCain's personality, although different, isn't more likeable.

McCain has contradicted himself so many times over the years that I think it might be possible to edit the video clips together in such a way that he would appear to be debating with himself. I wonder why his political and personal rivals have not yet turned this idea into a campaign ad?

An interesting trivia tidbit: McCain, Hillary, Putin, Sarkozy and Merkel are all roughly the same size (between 5'5 and 5'7).

Classical liberalism, the refusal to accept inherited or unlimited power, the participation of the ruled through elections and plebiscites in how they are ruled, the idea of the pursuit of happiness and improving one's situation instead of remaining in the station into which one was born, is the centrist doctrine of all the Western nations, and there are no major political forces in the West today who deviate from these ideas in principle, only in details, on the margins, and concerning issues of implementation.

The philosophy of the Conservative Revolution was built around a contempt for compromise, for democratic consultation and deliberation, a worship of action, war, heroes, and elites that rule in accordance to the voice of their blood. It's good for poetry, literature, the arts, and as a romantic stance for solitary individuals, but it is no good as a political program or as a basis for a society.

The only difference between a Republican and a Democrat today is their publicly articulated positions on a number of wedge issues designed to drum up voter enthusiasm. It is inevitable that all parties will evolve towards a common standard of behavior. At the completion of this process, the governing stratum becomes a class of professional managers who differ from one another no more than do the class of CEOs. Europe has arrived at this point in advance of the USA.
