I don't have to read the book to make a comment on it. The book is not innocent until proven guilty. It is the other way round. The book is the one making the bizarre and extraordinary claims, it is the one challenging what I have every reason to believe is true. I'm the one who's spent his whole life looking at the night sky and hanging out with other people who do. I am under no obligation to read anything, IT has to convince enough reviewers and critics that I KNOW AND TRUST before it is worth my time. I've already read enough books like this to recognize their style; every time they touch on a subject I happen to know anything about, I can pick out the misquotes, the misdirections, the selective evidence, the technical errors, the downright lies.
I don't have to read the scripture of every crackpot religion on this planet to "prove" that it's god is not true. I don't even have to learn Greek and Hebrew and study theology and archaeology to dispute Judaeism or Christianity, or Arabic to dispute Islam, or Sanskrit to dispute Hinduism. And I don't have to spend a year trekking in the Himalayas to question the Abominable Snowman, or a weekend in the Amityville House to prove its not haunted, or a summer in Scotland diving in Loch Ness to decide the monster is not there. Believers have to show me, and the scripture they used to convince themselves doesn't count as evidence.
But I did read some reviews of the book, both positive and negative, and I checked out some side issues (like the debunking of the Majestic documents) and I glanced through the summary and I can tell you I don't need to read the book because it sounds and is marketed like all the other books and websites about the paranormal . They follow a recognizeable pattern, style, and tone, they rely on the same tired old assumptions and arguments. It's all government conspiracies, witnesses I don't know, "experts" who only support each other and sources I've never heard of except in other anomalist tracts, and always that same breathless tone of "I'm privy to a great truth THEY are trying to keep from you so you must believe me, that will $19.95, please, Ka-Ching!" Oh, and by the way, "if you don't believe me you have been duped by those stuffy old orthodox skeptics and are closed-minded just like them." Right, and they persecuted Galileo, too.
Lindy, you just don't seem to understand, these people lie because that is what they do for a living. And they get away with it because folks like you are so desperate to believe.
