It would be a great rainhat in an emergency. You could cook on it, and then eat out of it. Scoop water out of creeks and streams. Then use it as a basin to wash up.
It could then be a pillow. And a great pillow to use for breaks along the trail.
In the morning you could put your foot on it to tie the laces, and then as a seat to sort of squat on.
Load up and listen to the radio every once in a while.
It's hard to imagine EVER not having one. I'm now looking back on many trips with regret, realizing how I'd wasted my time and sorry I ever went. Oh, I thought they were fun at the time, but it was just 'whistling in the dark'. I wasn't. They weren't fun. They were just killing time.
I can't look back on any hike, overnighter, through-hike or mountain now without a powerful sense of loss verging on despair. Huge chunks of life wasted, trashed, I might as well have been in prison.
Oh, if only!
Thanks for the great idea.
