Smashing stuff into space objects is always fun, but...

Will they get the kind of data they want from such an action?

Deep Impact was supposed to image the inside of the crater its
800 pound copper ball impactor made, but there was too much
pulverized ice and dust to see anything and the probe was off
into deep space by the time the debris settled.

I am still amazed the scientists didn't forsee that problem.

Now if they can fly something through the dust cloud and/or
put something into orbit or land next to or in the crater, that
would be another story. Otherwise just smashing a hunk of
metal into a space rock without even a seismometer present
doesn't make a huge amount of scientific sense to me.

At least the ESA is coming up with interesting and relevant
names for their space probes.
