The CEO of Exxon, Rex Tillerson, graduated as a civil engineer, and worked his way through twelve years of engineering positions at Exxon before moving into management. As an aside, he ranks #134 on the list of Forbes top 500 compensation levels for CEOs.
It might be an interesting project to see what percentage of successful CEOs of large companies have a mostly MBA background.
