I think the bail-out is a God-Awful idea.
Let these companies die. We live in an internet age. Replace them with completely transparent well-regulated organizations that can do the job better.
Pitch out the old business model, if there is a liquidity crunch in the meantime, then spend the $700 Billion to support the creation of a new and better business model.
At the same time, fine and imprison the mis-managers who destroyed the economy. (Of course the problem with that is that the politicians are just as to blame as the bozo's who were running companies like Lehman Bros.
