"The White Stuff"

Be careful to distinguish between CO2 ice (which is the volumetrically dominant constituent of the annual polar ice), and "snow" - H2O ice, which we know and love.

Often, reports will fail to accurately identify WHICH ice they are talking about. For this reason, I prefer to reserve the word "ice" for water ice, and describe frozen CO2 as "dry ice" or "solid CO2".

The clouds imaged in the LIDAR appear to be water ice clouds with genuine familiar "snow" (but not neccesarily snow-FLAKES - there are many other forms of ice precipitation, even on Earth). The CO2 carapace of the polar regions will be 99.9%+ CO2 ice...

But the exact and detailed behaviour of the tiny fraction of H2O ice is really, REALLY important....
