Not if you do it right. We had a card that we got 5% on gas purchases. We paid it off every month and got about an extra $300-400 every year. We were making too much money so they lowered it to 1%.
My Discover Card does 5% on gas purchases every few months.
The key is paying it off every month. We never carry a balance over.
Except for my home, and one car payment, I am debit free.
I wasn’t always like that. When I got out of college I owed around 30K. That quickly grew almost 70K. It took me 5 years to pay it off. I swore I would never get in credit card debit again and I have not.
