When the Republicans ran an actor for president the handwriting was on the wall. Reagan was obviously nothing but a front man for monied interests. A simplistic view of everything, platitudes substituting for philosophy, ideology filling the gaps. The guy's brain was slipping badly, his wife consulted astrologers and manipulated the poor bastards' actions, while his part was acting "presidential". Even got re-elected.
George W. Bush is clearly too stupid to be president, but carries out Cheney's and the monied interests agendae perfectly. They let him do the rest of the dumb stuff on his own. The re-election had many more votes in reserve had they needed them.
And McCain. Committed to Bush's policies as far as the monied class is concerned. And Palin is the ultimate message - "It doesn't matter who is in these offices, we're gonna run them." Clearly a possibility for President, and not qualified to be governor of a State with fewer people than the county in which I live. Scandals galore, and she's just started. Makes Bush look humble.
I firmly believe those really in power don't care which Conservative is on stage, they're pulling the strings. And as evidenced by Reagan and Bush the Second the dumber the better.

I will, but it's really a plutocracy, I fear. Reagan was the vanguard.
