re: Does anyone promise things will get better with this bailout? And what it doesn't cover.
Follow the money.
Follow the money.
Over the past two decades, the five-term Democratic senator from Connecticut has netted more than $13 million from political action committees and the financial industry. His failed bid for the presidency this year drew almost $6 million from the finance, insurance and real estate sectors.
Mr. Dodd's membership on the Senate banking committee is a big reason for this largesse. Money buys access and influence. With 26 years on the committee, Mr. Dodd exerts a lot of sway.
Some of Mr. Dodd's most generous patrons — American International Group, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers — are casualties of this crisis. Critics accuse him and others in Congress of looking the other way as the problems deepened. They've also portrayed the bailout as a rescue for corporate contributors at taxpayers' expense.
Who is he working for? Doesn’t seem to be the average tax payer.
