Back on point. Traditionally Conservatives do not support any infringement upon businesses and profits.

In theory, conservatives should oppose govt trying to control private business. And business does require profit in order to exist.

"Environmental considerations are one of many which they believe should not be allowed to interfere with the price of the stock and the bottom profit line. That is as true in good economic times as bad."

Many businesses don't have stock.
Generally a business must be worth millions of dollars to have public stock. Penny stocks are companies worth in the range of tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dollars. Of course a very small business can have stock which is not publicly traded- and therefore it's not a public company. And of course it's quite possible for very large companies [worth billions] not to be public companies- which has entities or individuals having stocks which is not publicly traded.
