You might be right but I hope not.

As a white person, It just tickled the s--t out of me that we may have a black man become our President. I didn't grow up around blacks, other than one old man who was a relic of another era. It was a small town and the only other black person was an auto mechanic from Fort Scott, KS who came over to Nevada (MO) to work and went back to Ft. Scott at night (a 20 mile trip which in those days was a long drive).

Since moving to KC, I've been around all kinds of blacks, some very intelligent, successful, some lazy and slovenly, some mean-spirited and angry... IOW, they run the same spectrum as Caucasians, Asians, Latinos. People are people are people are people. I'll be equally as tickled when the first woman becomes President (maybe a BIT more ;-), when the first Latino does, or the first Asian. I always loved the philosophy espoused on Star Trek, the Original Series, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. People fascinate me.

I was going to come home tonight and write an essay or an editorial on hate mongering and got sidetracked. There was a piece on NPR tonight regarding anti-illegal immigrants and the crap people pass around about Mexicans and Latinos, i.e. breeding like rabbits. I would imagine the same crap was passed around about the Irish (Irish Catholics) and the Italians (also Catholic) when they were immigrants here. I have yet to see any of those groups on their hands and knees in the cabbage patch munching on lettuce. However, I had an aunt, a 2nd generation American (and not Irish, Italian, Latino or Catholic) who had 21 children. And her nose didn't even twitch!
