The job that he ended up having to do was not the one he anticipated
Obama will end up finding most of nearly all of his time swallowed up in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well, unless he puts Biden in charge of getting a solution in place. Given Biden's relationship with Israel, he may be the only person capable of getting an agreement from Israel, but can he come up with an offer acceptable to the Palestinians?
That's my estimate.
