She campaigned HARD because she is a tough candidate and wanted to win, in part for herself but also for the issues she's fought for her entire life, as well as for women everywhere.
At the convention she released all of her delegates to Obama before the votes were cast. She made the speech of her life endorsing Obama. She campaign heavily for Obama right up until the election, which in no small part helped Obama win nearly ALL those voters who picked Hillary in the primaries. She could have easily just sat out the Fall and let the chips fall where they may if she only cared about herself. She cares about policy, and Obama and Hillary see eye to eye on nearly everything. She's looking at 2016. Sixty eight is still young enough, especially for a woman.
The Clintons are the gold standard internationally. The world loves them and would welcome Hillary as Sec of State. She's tough, smart, and usually very diplomatic. Also persuasive.
The more I think about it she would be an excellent choice.
