1. Climate science is immensely complex. The greenhouse effect is one influence among hundreds, all interacting. Honest scientists speak in terms of "likely" and "possible," admit they don't have all the answers, that there are unknowns in the theories, that the data is difficult to analyze, and that a lot more study is needed I have noted several holes in the conventional wisdom, which does not require extensive scientific or mathematical analysis, just logic and thinking.
2. A contingent of powerful political interests has seized on this subject in order to greatly increase their power and access to wealth. These interests, the IPCC for example, are often a main feedline and gatekeeper of information on the subject, a coincidence that seems to escape a lot of people.
A thousand skeptical eyes fall on science funded to the tune of a few hundred thousand dollars by Exxon. That hundreds of billions of dollars in wealth redistribution and vastly increased government power rides on the other position seems to be utterly invisible to these same eyes.
