Leaky Oceans or over-active Sun?

Hi Raoul

Which do you think will cause the Big Dry? A leaky mantle, as some Japanese researchers published a few years ago, or the warmer Sun? Clouds would slow down the water-loss via an overactive Sun, so the mantle loss might be the most significant factor in an aeon or two.

Taube actually proposes a big soletta to mitigate the Sun's rising output until the end of the Main Sequence, though that would also work to the end of the Redwards Traverse c.7.6 billion AD before output rises exponentially in ~60 million years to its Red Giant Peak.

Personally I think our descendents (or inheritors) might find it more economical to use the enhanced solar wind and ride the Earth like a gigantic plasma sail into the outer Solar System to 50 AU. Of course once the RGB ends and the Helium Main Sequence starts things get a lot chillier - the Sun drops in output from x2500 to just x50 present insolation. Jupiter's corpse will be orbitting in the right place - it would've lost almost no mass, though the Galileans might all be fried, unless they're moved too.
