Logan's Run and Westworld - and don't forget the original Rollerball
Westworld was entertaining, but Futureworld came up short.
When are we ever going to make androids that seem human?
The first two novels of the Logan's Run series were much better than
either the film or television series of the late 1970s. Hollywood just
could not capture what might have been a great film and series.
Rollerball in its 1975 form is the perfect example of how Hollywood
just cannot make a smart SF film right these days, as the remake
so painfully showed. They left out all the great social commentary
of the original. Corporations ruling the world in the 21st Century -
how crazy is that?!
I blame Star Wars, seriously.
