Obama is not a fast thinker on his feet. His initial responses to the current scandal have been too quick off the mark, inconsistent with later responses, and on the face of it, some of them make no sense.
As one example, is anyone seriously going to maintain that there has been no contact at all between Obama (or at least someone on his team), and the governor of Illinois on who's going to get Obama's seat? That doesn't automatically mean there was improper contact, but none at all?
"Smooth" isn't necessarily the same as "smart."
