Did they pull Gort, interstellar spacecraft, and nanotech out of their butts, or did they have a massive industrial/technological infrastructure in place to build all of those things with? An infrastructure that would require mining, refining, and manufacturing facilities. Guess the PR puppets of the Gaia cult didn't think it out that far.
