The post is controversial to be sure and clearly raised some ire, but it was on topic and written with care.

Personally it'd take a lot more convincing to get me to agree with the assertion...but then, I don't know the history all that well. However, it's my understanding (possibly mistaken) that Einstein's work has been very vigorously tested and a great deal of hard evidence supports his theories. Which means that it's not just math, but also a long history of rigorous observation (by some very bright people) that supports Einstein.

Still, though, it wouldn't be the first time humanity's taken a wrong turn.
