I'm sure you mean protocol in the following sense.

1. a. The forms of ceremony and etiquette observed by diplomats and heads of state.
b. A code of correct conduct: safety protocols; academic protocol.

(Sardonic smile) Certainly, and with all due respect, I've not noticed that arcane section of the HZ Standards for Posts on Flame. I hadn't seen those standards codified at all. Possibly this transgression can be the motivation for those with a finer sense of the appropriate than I to create one. And for those with the interest and talent Ihave for them nothing but good will and wish them Godspeed on their quest.

As one who not only steps on cracks but speaks ill of the dead, I would not have hesitated in this case evem had I known of the Standards. Death or departure does not change the nature of the situation.

(Serious, no smile) However, I would have posted something slightly different had I thought the nameless, initialless person in question had truly left these Boards. I treated that portion of his post as pure rhetoric, a heat-of-the-moment expression without substance. Time will tell if it is "operative".

I have to admit I agreed with the person on virtually everything. Certainly politically and on conventional science there was agreement. My issue with him was not over topics or facts, or disagreeing with others. It was over the personal abuse he heaped upon those with whom he disagreed. The unnecessary savaging of others.

I find it instructive that this alleged violation of etiquette is worth mentioning, twice, when the cruel abuse of other HZers draws no comment. If I were to say anything I'd have to say I don't admire those priorities.
