Current Events » in reply to Obama grabs hold of the "third rail"

He's playing the middle ground.

Quite frankly, I'm happy with everything he's done so far and where it looks like he's heading. But then I'm a middle of the road Democrat, not a left-winger. I like fiscal responsibility and facing problems realistically. He could close Gitmo and just drop the inmates off in the ocean, I guess. Many of their own countries won't take them, some WILL be dangerous to us (hell, if the US had kept ME in prison without trial that many years, I'D strap on a damn bomb--no, actually, I wouldn't, but I'd talk someone else into strapping one on). I heard the incoming team has been talking to Leavenworth about taking some Gitmo prisoners and they're balking. You can't just let them loose in the US.

My one fear: what will be done with Social Security? I'm 62 and already semi-retired (actually, semi-semi-retired since I still work at leat 32 hours a week) and I have to have Social Security. I paid it in, I want it out. OTOH, there are a helluva lot of things that can be done to make it more cost-effective like kick the pharmaceutical companies in the ass and get their prices down.
