Well, thank you, I think.
The problem is, there may have been criminal acts committed by members of the former administration. Some of these former officials have gone so far as to admit that they have committed or authorized acts that, in someone not above the law, would have been criminal.
So, are American officials in service to the law or above it? And if above it, who watches the watchmen?
If the US wants to continue to lead by something other than might, we have to own that too. Investigation, possible prosecution, and contrition where warranted are the keys to moral leadership.
