Space/Science » in reply to Shut down our missile defense program? Just a guess.

But how well has the US missile defense program been doing?

Many billions have been spent and the last time they had any kind of
a success, it was with a target that did everything but personally fly
the missile to it.

This is from memory, please note, so correct me if I am wrong, but I
do not recall hearing about a lot of big successes with the program.
And no doubt they have gotten a lot more money than NASA.

I doubt Obama would shut the program down, but if they continue to
waste billions and have little to show for it, what is the next course
of action? Keep giving the DoD more money? Like they don't have the
lion and the tiger's shares already.

The missile defense program wouldn't be able to stop a full scale attack
anyway, even with the reduced number of weapons Russia has. It also
can't stop a suitcase nuke snuck into this country. Even when the
program was riding high during the Reagan years, its promises were
about as accurate and honest as those two-week turnaround claims for
the Space Shuttle were.

Look what three airplanes hitting three buildings did to America; now
imagine the effect of just one nuclear missile getting through, let alone
dozens or more.

I am not against a missile defense program, rest assure, but I am not
at all confident with the one we have now.
