Good questions with easy answers. One of the things I remember from what Bush was elected and Republicans gained control of Congress. We all agreed that it would be easy to assign responsibility for what happened. And the Conservatives started talking about their utopia.
To answer the question, look at who controlled the Congress and Presidency for the, say, eight years before the collapse.
Then look at who traditionally opposes governmental regulations and had the power to reduce or eliminate them. Who created hedge funds and resisted regulating derivatives? Oh, you can find a Democrat in that Republican herd but you can't make a case for that Democrat leading the Conservatives down that primrose path.
As I said, one can find Democrats who were complicit in the Conservative drive to turn over the entire economy to the tender mercies of other Conservatives. And it's the Conservative platform carried out when Conservatives were in power.
No one learned from Kenny Boy or Enron, for instance.
SteveS blames Democrats for the mess. One can't possibly talk with people that brainwashed. And the Democrats who supported the Conservative agenda simply gave it enough rope to hang itself.
