Statistically, it's going to get worse and worse with each passing month & year.

As more satellites are launched each month, and fewer
experience orbital decay over a given
amount of time [say anywhere from 5 to 50 years].

Statistically, the number of collisions between satellites will rise,
first by linear increase, then quadratically or exponentially,
resulting in more and more collisions, and even far more impacts
by the resulting debris fields..
LEO space may become prohibitably dangerous for manned
orbital misisions in 10-20 years.
Those 10 years will fly by fast....

Even this latest [not first] collision, and its growing debris field,
threatens the HST.
In fact it maybe too dangerous to carry out repairs on the HST
in a few months; NASA may cancel any planned repair of HST forever
because it maybe too dangerous for EVA astronauts to step outside.
