Mike makes some good points

Do you folks realize that rockets societies around the world started
in the 1930s, when one might think that a combination of a Great
Depression and a general lack of all but rudimentary space technology
would make such a thing seem ridiculous.

But they did and just two decades later, humanity was lobbing rockets
and satellites into space and just twelve years after the first satellite
was put into Earth orbit, humans were walking on the Moon.

I worry about humanity and its antics all the time, but if I keep thinking
we are doomed - especially by a human-made problem that has human
made solutions - then we will make our own fate.
