I think the fascination is that of watching someone with an empty can of gas and a lit match standing by a burning building. You come along and the guy denies there's a fire, he didn't start it, but you did.
There's a "hook" in watching someone deny the US tortures, the President didn't lie, AND that it was necessary to torture to get information of "ticking bombs". And to see the guy insist both are true.
It's amazement at watching a guy advocate deregulation forever, seeing an runaway deregulated securities market trash the worlds economies and then say that less regulation is needed. Or watching the US job market collapse even while the super-wealthy are enjoying tax cuts and claiming those tax cuts create jobs.
Someone who is watching the US collapse as the result of Conservative economic policies and say, "The government is in the hands of people who are economically insane."
It's the blatant contradictions, the disconnection from reality, the inability to accept responsibility which is the hook for me. There are too many to mention. Some people you don't expect too much from, but somehow one always holds out hope for TB. I feel a bit like Charlie Brown and the football. Maybe this one time he'll be able to accept reality and responsibility, this time it's so clear no one could deny the situation.

I think it's cognitive dissonance. It's watching the type of thinking.
