Too bad there wasn't more notice.
I saw 2004XP14 back in 2006. I set up the night before to learn the starfield which was sparsly populated. There were very good charts on the web showing where and when the pass would be. I used a 30mm 1rpd with an 85 degree AFV
5 minutes before it was supposed to pass, I glued my eye to the eyepiece. When I first saw it, it was about 1/3 of the way across the field. It looked like a slowly moving dim star. It seemed like it took at least a minute to go out of view. I unlocked both axis and was able to follow it one more time before loosing it.
It wasn't much to look at but it was still a thrill to 'catch'. I'd really like to see another.
