The scientists I've seen quoted

don't seem to have as cavalier an attitude about it as you do, they are delighted. Now they have all the cell lines they need to do cross-genetic studies. As far as they are concerned, it was never a minor issue.

The funding ban was primarily symbolic, a sop to GWB's religious supporters. Those who supported the ban for non-religious reasons, like yourself, did so to provide political excuses for the Bush administration. This is what we mean by the politicization of science. Or perhaps more accurately, the introduction of religion into science.

As for my own case, I've already stated I don't expect to be a beneficiary of any of this research, I am too old. I am just outraged by the injection of this tribal and medieval superstition into the political process, and I am particularly outraged by how it has been exploited politically by those pandering to the practitioners of this rubbish.
