New US administration on Cuba

"US President Barack Obama has signed a bill that reverses some of George Bush's strictest limits on travel and trade with Cuba."

I will never understand how Cubans in the US could support sanctions which hurt Cubans in Cuba, strengthened Castro's hold on the country and gave the USSR a ready-made base.

Fidel was handed a way to isolate Cuba from US influence, an excuse for the countries financial problems and an enemy against which to bitch and rail.

And the Cubans on Cuba suffered, not the Castros.

It seems so utterly counter-productive. There may be some good reasons out there, I don't know them.
