I have long favored free trade and tourism with Cuba.
However, I would have placed some caveats in the deal.
Equivalent import duties, if any. All legal commodities would be freely exchanged.
All citizens of each country are permitted to leave to visit the other.
Each country must guarantee the safety of tourists from the other.
And a few other commonsense provisions, the same as we have with Mexico, Canada, etc.
Nothing would have brought the Castro regime down faster than trade and tourism.
Trade would show them what our economy was capable of.
Tourism would give their people contact with free people.
Frankly, I doubt if Castro would have accepted such a deal.
