Your friend and you are separated upon entry to the Dichotomy Building. One host takes you to a door. Your friend is ushered through another door. You wait a moment and then you are brought through the door and find yourself at one end of a long room with two statues in the middle. You see that your friend has entered the same room from the opposite end, along with his host.
A voice seems to emanate from the ceiling: "Please point to the white statue." Now you look at the statues and see that one is white and one is black. You point to the white one. But you see that your friend is pointing at the other statue.
"Please point to the black statue, now." You find that your friend and you have both changed the statues that you point to. And you continue to point to different statues. Weird!
You have a brainstorm: "Hey! That statue that I'm pointing at right now. It's black on my side but white on the side my friend is on, right?"
The voice says: "Rotate the statue." And the statue that you identify as black and your friend identifies as white begins to revolve. It is the same shade from both sides. Weird!
The explanation is simple: the rotating statue is grey. The other statue is bright white on one side and dark black on the other. Compared to the black statue, the grey appears white. Compared to the white statue, the grey appears black.
It is all a question of point of view.
