It reeks of panic
With all the subtlety of a kindergartner, Trump tries to draw attention away from not only his own incessant lies, but now those of his senior staff and appointees as well.
It must be terribly frustrating and confusing for him. After spending his entire life in the company of Yes Men, he now faces a skilled and diligent press corps that has a duty to hold him to account. Declaring journalists "the enemy" was a strategic blunder worthy of a comic book villain, and which mired him in yet another fight he can't win.
And then there's this:
"Mr. President: If there was a wiretap at Trump Tower, that means a fed judge found probable cause of crime which means you are in deep shit."
