I derive some optimism from widespread resistance
...and on top of that some meta-optimism, because it's definitely a self-reinforcing crowd thing: The more people visibly resist, the more will be encouraged to resist.
I don't see Trump slacking off on the outrages, so the outrage will continue to stoke the protests and criticism and ridicule.
I rarely hope for a positive feedback loop in social/societal situations, but there are rare times, like this, when it's a virtuous cycle.
