"Missiles, Moonprobes, and Megaparsecs" - by Willie Ley
Published in 1964, subtitled "From Blackpowder to Liquid Oxygen".
Fascinating read. A history of rocketry up to the time, with predictions for the future. Besides the history the most interesting part was his description of mail delivered by rocket as feasible.
Having just re-read Jules Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon" the analysis of his "gun" was interesting, as was the history of long-range artillery (70 miles by the Germans in WW I).
Old, out of print, a darned good read.
