Mars?
Verne wrote "From the Earth to the Moon" and "Around the Moon", the sequel, and mentioned Edgar Allen Poe's "Unparalleled Adventures of Hans Pfall" which describes a balloon trip to the Moon, which meant Poe indulged in a lot of hokey theorising about atmosphere in space. Verne didn't make that mistake.
