Of course, in our nannystate, children aren't given the opportunity to go out and work and learn how to do something useful with their lives. A century ago, immigrants were crowding onto ships so their kids would have a chance to get a job in the mills and factories which made this country great.
Even today, immigrunts cross our borders at great risk so their kids can join them in our fields and farms and have the opportunity to pick our produce. Today, in the rapidly growing industrial powers of Asia, children labor right alongside their parents, often for long hours under appalling conditions, to build their country's industries and better their own lives. It builds character, something which our liberal moddycoddling state seems to have forgotten how to do.
