A few small warships capable of handling the Osprey could cover a lot of sea. Unfortunately, one gets the sense the Osprey is a very fragile aircraft and the technology is sexier than satisfying, extremely attractive but not robust.

An aircraft with Osprey technology capable of being a cross between a gunship and/or attack/transport helicopter could cover a lot of sea and do a lot of damage to small craft on short notice.

If a maritime version could land on water, could carry people and handle missiles, machine guns and and various flares and other goodies it would be pretty good for this mission. Unfortunately, so far this generation of that technology can only be trusted to ferry men and materiel from one secure base to another.
