You're right in that it's a gut reaction. We took out 3 of them and suddenly they declare war on us as if they have the right to attack us but we don't have the right to protect ourselves. It's frustrating as hell. I know that if we fed them, gave them aid, that could help the problem---except... 1. the governement in these cases usually steals the aid and it never gets where it needs to go and 2. the ones running the pirates want the wealth; they don't give a freakin' fig about whether their people have enough to eat.

I bow to your superior knowledge that subs wouldn't be practical. I don't know what the Somali coast is like. A naval embargo could temporarily keep the pirates at bay; of course, it would worsen some of the root causes. Sigh.
