Do no harm

Psychologists have their own web of professional standards equivalent to, but not a household word like, the Hippocratic Oath; and they're subject to state licensing and regulation. The American Psychological Association has a long and detailed Code of Ethics.

There's no question that the psychologists involved committed an ethical "breach", just as surely as any medical doctor who participates in torture; both are involved to enhance the suffering and take it closer to the edge of death. Psychologists have the same obligation to work for the welfare of their patient as do MDs, and these guys betrayed that trust. There's nothing ambiguous about this case.
