Long duration missions
What it shows is that long duration missions are not as interesting as short ones. The Moon's distance from Earth allows for short duration flights....But neither asteroid nor Mars bound missions do.
And before humans leave the Earth-Moon environment for any celestial body in orbit around the Sun, some preparations will be needed for such a long flight. The Moon is the obvious first place outside of Earth's magnetosphere, with a solid ground and gravity.
