Seems like the iPhone's reinvigorated the handheld market, which had been pretty moribund the last few years. The iPhone gets all the press, but in business and government the Blackberry is taking over. One of the Navy psychologists I work with told me that the DOD has standardized on the Blackberry for all medical personnel, and they hand them out like tricorders, preloaded with diagnostic and reference software for the various medical, dental, and psych disciplines. That means that I, in turn, am going to have to recast my delivery platform for psych training materials on PTSD and TBI in order to fit into a tiny handheld screen, and I'm actually pretty jazzed about that.
Handhelds are pretty compelling in applications like medicine, but I can understand your kneejerk skepticism about using the Zone through a handheld (ya darn reactionary). I doubt viewing the Zone through a tiny portable screen will ever become the dominant mode, but it'd be nice to have that option (especially combined with image and video upload, enabling "citizen journalist" sort of posts from the field). In practice it means having an alternate user interface available that fits the small screen, and that's not out of the question. Someday soon you could be sitting on BART reading and posting at the Zone through a Blackberry.
