Well, if Obama wasn't enormously popular,
and if the Republicans weren't in complete disarray and leaderless, then people wouldn't even be discussing the possibility of repealing the 22nd Amendment. There sure wasn't any talk of it when Bush was President!
It's a very sound and profoundly democratic idea, just a few years premature. But it'll no doubt resurface after Obama clobbers his GOP opponent in 2012.
