re: End22.com

The link is http://www.end22.com/. The object is to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which limits the number of times a President can be re-elected.

One assumes that people fear Obama may be successful enough to be re-elected more than once. For all the scoffing, apparently his opponents think he's enough of a threat to warrant the repeal.

The last time someone suggested this, the President was Ronald Reagan. As I recall, it caused some hilarity among the Democrats, because the Republicans had been behind the 22nd in the first place when they were in a snit over FDR's four terms.

TB's right: I can't find any reference to who sponsors this page, except this:

END22.com was founded by a group of ordinary Americans: Democrats, Republicans and Independents, who found common ground in their belief that the Twenty-Second Amendment must be repealed.

There is no board, no webmaster, none of that. If a person gives them money, he can see other members' profiles. That is, if the other members have posted any profiles to see.

It's not the kind of site I would recommend to a kid because of the anonymous authorship. Somebody ought to be the public face, if only to be held responsible for content.

Also, when considering the prospect of Reagan's third term (the Alzheimer's term), maybe the 22nd isn't so bad. The Founders didn't feel the need to restrict the number of terms the President could serve, because they specified that a President must be at least 35 years old. People used to die a lot earlier back then, so the concept of someone being elected president for decades was not viable. Now, of course, it's possible. Not such a good idea, I think.
