Maybe the party needs a bit more thinking about basic principles and philosophy instead of putting a finger up to see which way the wind is blowing.
"Hey, if we adopt socialist ideas, and huge spending programs, maybe they'll vote for us instead of the party that's been steeped in these policies for thirty years!"
Republicans are overlooking their own history. 1980, 1984, and 1994 should give them the answer, but they don't want to listen.
