Court moderate and capable Republicans and get in shouting matches (and thus legitimizing) the crazies? The plan may be to force the GOP further to the right by co-opting their rising stars or backhandedly complimenting their most attractive voices, thereby forcing the Conservative base to marginalize and reject their best future prospects.
