I want to know if Surveyor 4 crashed or landed safely, as it stopped
communicating just before touchdown. Or maybe it exploded.
One of the pre-Luna 9 Soviet Moon landers may have landed intact, as
one of them transmitted for a second or two after touchdown. It would
be good to image those first historic landers in any event.
Then we can do the Apollo sites. One practical point to doing this, in
addition to it being just plain neato, is that finding those old landing and
crashing sites will help space archaeologists find them in the future to
examine them directly, plus I am sure some of those landing areas will
be put under some kind of historical lunar national park preservation one day.
The Apollo sites are already a given, but let's not forget the machines
that helped get them there first.
